TITLE: Resurrection
AUTHOR: Demona
SUMMARY: This is a companion piece, from Buffy’s PoV, to Family Tradition
SPOILER WARNING:
For Buffy: All seven seasons
X2: Through the movie, including Jean's death.
RATING: FR-13 for a few bad words.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own any of the characters in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and/or Angel the Series; they belong to Fox, the WB/UPN, Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy, etc. I do not own any of the characters in X-Men; they belong to their creators (who I am too lazy at the current moment to look up). The most important thing is that I do not own any of these characters. I just "borrow" them for my own personal amusement and entertainment. However, the ideas, concepts, and original characters in this story are mine entirely. Please do not copy or take this story without my permission. Joss Whedon is God...

Companion piece to Family Tradition.
A/N: I realize that the tale you are about to read isn’t the correct way that Jean Grey was resurrected, but since this is fiction I am taking liberties. I hope you all still enjoy.

FFA 925 Buffy / Jean Grey

The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as soon as the door opened behind me. My Slayer senses always tingled when a mutant was near but it had never been anything like this. I put the picture frame back on Scott’s desk and turned to face her.

She looked different. Her hair had grown long, impossibly long, since her death and it was a deeper red than before. But the look in her eyes told me all I needed to know.

“Hello Jean,” I greeted her, with a smile.

“Hello Buffy,” she answered and stepped toward me.

I helped close the distance between us. We encircled our arms around one another, happy to have this opportunity once again. Death was a guarantee in my life, but it was all too shocking when it happened to those around me. I was genuinely happy that Jean wasn’t gone for good.

“Welcome back. I’m glad you found your way.”

“It took some time. It seems Death is a gift we both share now.”

“Yes, as well as resurrection, in some form or another.”

Jean paused for a moment and studied me. I wasn’t fond of the intense examination but I held my ground. “Do you ever feel like you came back wrong?” she quietly questioned, her words barely audible.

The words shocked me. It wasn’t often that people brought up the topic of my death and rebirth so bluntly. “I did at first. Sometimes I still wonder,” I honestly answered.

She nodded and a small, forced smile appeared on her face. “I didn’t die…not like you. There was no Heaven, no peace or happiness, just a vast nothingness. I evolved past what a normal human or a normal mutant had ever done. And I had to be put back together, piece by piece. And I wonder if they missed something.”

I stood silent and waited for her to continue. She closed her eyes and seemed to gather her thoughts. When she opened them a shiver went down my spine.

“So you can feel it too?” she asked, not really sounding surprised.

“Excuse me?”

“The difference. You can feel it too,” she repeated herself, sure of the answer to her statement.

I licked my lips and nodded. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

“I’m glad you came Buffy, I really am,” was her reply after she reopened her eyes. Whatever lurked just under the surface was gone, for now. I had a feeling it wouldn’t stay that way for long.

OK, so... I love X-men fics! - I started out in the FF world writing X-men (movie-verse) fics!

... that being said: I LOVE THESE TWO! :-) You did such a great job at catching emotion in such short stories! Excellent work, hon!

Yay! I'm glad I write in enough fandoms to appease everyone. Woohoo!! I'm glad that you liked it. I actually wrote this on a plane back from vacation. I was pleasantly surprised how it turned out considering I hate flying!

I originally started out writing in the Highlander/Buffy fandom. Um...yeah and then there was Vin and The Fast and the Furious and Pitch Black and yum... And then I watched X-Men in 2003 and decided that Rogue and Wolverine were destined to be. Thus me venturing into the X-Men fandom.

I have such a love for different fandoms...seriously, they just sweep me up and totally engross me.
