Every good drinking story usually starts with a hot girl entering stage right. And from there the story can get a little fuzzy, and its often humorous to hear her side of the tale in comparison.
And like all great drinking stories, mine too started with a girl walking into the bar. Okay, more like she sauntered and possibly strutted, but she entered stage right and I knew my life was never going to be the same. Then again, half the men and quite a few women might have felt the same way.
Only she hadn’t come in to make friends with any of us. She had check the place out and set her sights on Petty Officer Cummings. And she made her move when Cummings exited her group to take a bathroom break. The military’s rules are don’t ask, don’t tell. Perhaps not the most tolerate, but it was very risky for Cummings to bring a potential girlfriend here – to a military bar.
But all doubts of a scandalous affair were quickly squashed as the two came arguing out of the bathroom.
“I really think you should just let me introduce you to the others,” the stunning brunette said as they walked into the crowd near the bar itself.
“I’m perfectly happy *right* where I am. I’m not interested in anything else,” Cummings replied and fixed her with a dirty look.
“Right…happy…where you don’t belong.”
“I do belong here,” Cummings started to argue but stopped when her brunette friend threw a punch. Cummings ducked and threw one of her own, connecting with the girl’s face. Everyone in the bar watched in stunned silence as the brunette didn’t even flinch. Cummings looked like she was about to pass out or cry, whichever wanted to come first. The girl just smiled and licked her lip where it had been split.
“Now I think we’re starting to understand one another,” she calmly stated. “I’m not asking for you to leave. I’d just like to talk to you.”
“Not here, not now,” Cummings replied, her voice wavering slightly.
“Lunch tomorrow. I’ll meet you at noon outside your bunk or whatever,” the brunette instructed her and laughed slightly.
“All right,” Cummings agreed. The brunette watched her for a second before nodding and heading toward the bar.
The bar’s patrons split apart to let her through. They were acting like they had never seen a couple of girls fight before. Okay, so perhaps they hadn’t seen two beautiful women fight, but still. She appeared before me and fixed me with an amused look.
“Like what you see, sailor?” she asked as she slid up next to me. I turned to face her and easily smiled in return.
“Name’s Harm, and you’d look better without a bloody lip,” I honestly answered. Her laugh was low and throaty. I couldn’t imagine any other laugh coming out of her.
“Faith, and I bet you it won’t be there in the morning.”
“That so?” I asked, setting my beer down on the bar. She nodded and licked at her lip again. I handed her a few bar napkins which she used to wipe off the excess blood. “I guess I’m willing to take that bet then,” I answered after a moment’s internal debate.
“Lead the way,” she suggested with a tilt of her head, letting her hair fall off her neck. This girl was sex and she knew it. And I wasn’t crazy enough to turn her down.
