TITLE: Stranger Things
AUTHOR: Demona
SUMMARY: Response to Challenge 310: Woke Up In Vegas by Jinni. Faith ends up in bed with one Jack O'Neill.
SPOILER WARNING:
For Buffy and Angel: Set after Chosen
For Stargate: Through Season 8
RATING: FR18, at the moment, just to be safe.
"A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend." - I do not own any of the characters in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel: the Series or Stargate. The ideas and concepts in this story are mine entirely. Please do not copy or take this story without my permission. Joss Whedon is God…
Reviews are happily welcome, though not necessary.
This is set post "Chosen" in Buffy but runs kinda parallel to the earlier seasons of Stargate. Jack is still a Colonel, not General, etc. So yes, I'm really messing with timelines here. Thanks :)
Previous Chapters:
Chapter One
Chapter Two
Outside of the hotel room was unnaturally bright. The sun, reflecting off the Strip’s businesses, blinded me momentarily. Jack slid on a pair of pilot shades circa Top Gun and I couldn’t stop the whistle that spilled out of my mouth. It was loud enough that it attracted the attention of Jack and several people around us. I pretended to fan myself.
“Damn. Look at the hotness that is my husband. No wonder I went home with you last night,” I stated, and Jack actually blushed – again.
“Oh for crying out loud, stop! Just stop. As soon as we get this lunch and talk over with we are going to get our marriage annulled,” he shot back.
“You don’t even want to give it a try?” I asked, and let a disappointed pout come to my face.
“I don’t know you. I don’t remember meeting you all that well. I certainly don’t remember marrying you,” he ranted and then dropped his voice before continuing, “or the events that led up to this morning,” he softly finished. “I don’t want to be your husband. And once you get to know me better you won’t want to be my wife.”
“Let’s start with lunch and work from there. I come from a good Catholic family,” I smirked. He just walked away.

“So, tell me about yourself,” I suggested after we ordered our food.
“I don’t like to talk about myself.”
“Unacceptable. What do you do for a living?” I asked and took a pull from my beer.
“I’m a Colonel in the Air Force,” he stated and I choked on my beer. He looked at me strangely as I fought to keep beer from exiting my nose. “And why is that such a problem?”
“You’re in the military?”
“Yes.”
“Oh, it’s definite then, we’re getting a divorce,” I said and pushed my beer aside.
“Wait just a minute. A divorce? Not two minutes ago you were telling me you were a good Catholic girl…and now you want a divorce?”
“I lied. My mom was passed around more than a hot potato, my dad is non-existent, and I haven’t been Catholic for years.”
“And you don’t like military personnel because…?”
“Long story short they stuck their noses into something they didn’t know anything about and almost got a ton of people killed.”
“The military don’t usually intentionally endanger civilians, Faith,” he argued.
“You might have a point there, but they got involved with something very hairy a few years back. I don’t know the exact details, nor would I share them with you, but it almost blew up in everyone’s faces. Being military doesn’t mean being superior,” I explained and he looked like he wanted to say something back but closed his mouth.
It took him a few moments to collect his thoughts before he started down a different path of conversation. “What do you do for a living?” he asked, looking at me over his beer.
“I am…um…I am a teacher of sorts. I work for a school for girls. They come to us to get educated in a well-rounded sort of way. I have the older girls, sixteen and up. It’s like camp,” I managed to explain but I could almost physically see the wheels turning in Jack’s head. I didn’t do a well enough job with that little explanation. Having a secret identity kinda sucked at times. Of course I don’t think that Buffy, Willow, or Xander had ever planned out the ‘what to say if you wake up married’ contingency. And quite frankly I wasn’t sure I wanted to tell them about this just to figure out what say if it happened again.
“A teacher? You don’t sound too sure about that.”
“I teach the more physical aspects of the camp. I’m not so good with the book learning,” I admitted with a shrug. “What do you do in the military? Colonel means you have kissed a lot of ass, huh?” He chuckled and shook his head. “So, I’m waiting…what do you do?”
“I work on a Deep Space Telemetry project,” he answered.
“That sounds awful vague,” I shot back with a smirk. “Cover story for some moon spy operation?”
“Yes, you betcha.”
“Hmm. We’ll see. So, how come you’re in Vegas, Colonel?”
“Call me Jack. And I’m in Vegas because I needed some time off. Work was getting a little stressful,” he answered after a moment’s pause.
The waitress chose that moment to arrive with our food. It was a welcome distraction on my part, as I’m sure it was on Jack’s. We ate in a slightly awkward silence. I made sure I ate everything, just because I was having a hell of a morning didn’t mean I needed to let my energy level slip. Jack seemed pretty impressed I managed to pack away what I did. The check appeared on the table just as we were finishing up. Jack immediately reached for it, and I sat back and glared.
“What?” he asked once he caught sight of me.
“You going to let me pay my half?” I asked, keeping my arms crossed over my chest.
“I’ve got this, Faith,” he answered instead.
“Why? Cause you feel bad about this whole situation or cause you’re the man in the
relationship?”
“Because I’m older and have a steady paying job. I don’t mean to offend your feministic views of equality.”
“Feministic views of equality… Wow Jack. If I wasn’t so sure you were being an ass intentionally I would be offended,” I told him. He shrugged and put down enough money to cover the check and tip.
“Let’s go, we have a lot to get done today,” Jack stated as he rose to his feet. I rose to my feet and almost regretted leaving the safety of the public restaurant. I was about to go back into uncharted territory in an attempt to figure out how to put back together the pieces of my life.
